As a part of our Summer Vacation, we visited Mahabalipuram , a coastal town in Eatern Tamilnadu which is famous for its stone sculptures. It's about 60 kms away from Chennai.

Krishna's Butter Ball

Descent of the Ganges Monument/Arjuna's Penance

Built by Pallava Kings in 7th and 8th Centuries. The monument is 27 meters long and 9 meters high with a cleft in the middle. Some says the depiction is the story of Mahabarata where Arjun meditates for the favor from Lord Shiva and some says it depicts the meditation of Bhagiratha. On both sides of the cleft, one can find the fine carvings of Gods, Demi-Gods, birds and animals.
